Galway senior county champions Corofin will be favourites to see off Castlerea in the Connacht club championship semi-final in Hyde Park on Sunday at 2.30pm.

Giant-killers Cortoon Shamrocks are just one step from their first county title and a successful end to their fairytale championship when they face favourites Corofin in Sunday’s Claregalway Hotel Senior Football Championhip final at Pearse Stadium (1.30pm).

"A great feeling to be back on top of Connacht", was how captain Kieran Fitzgerald described leading Corofin to their fourth Connacht Club SFC title.

Winning a provincial title at club level is a great honour and Galway County champions Corofin annexed their fourth Connacht title last Sunday by easily defeating Eastern Harps from Sligo. Corofin’s previous provincial successes came in 1991, 1995 and 1997 and they are now second in the provincial honours list behind the magnificent Clann na Gael team that won seven titles, including a sensational six-in-a-row from 1984 to 1989.

Corofin gave everything they had last Saturday in Mullingar to try to join Portumna on the feature bill for the All-Ireland finals on St Patrick’s Day in two weeks’ time, but they fell short of their target.

Kieran Fitzgerald’s three points from play were crucial in Corofin’s narrow win over Killererin in a poor game. The county defender had a fine game and his industry and work rate were notable features in the contest.

Mountbellew-Moylough will enter next Sunday’s county senior football final as rank outsiders when they face Corofin in Tuam Stadium (4pm).
